Bella

Bella is a 1-2 year-old red female. She has natural ears and a docked tail. She is on the smaller side. Bella has had a rough life. She was part of a seizure case from an animal hoarder who had over 100 dogs, not all of which were alive. (See the story here.) She was “rescued” by a man who kept her in his back yard for a month or two. She was surrendered to animal control after she got tangled in barbed wire in the back yard.

Bella is shy, but shows no fear aggression. She is house trained and crate trained. She knows “sit” and is WONDERFUL on a leash. She does not pull at all and loves going for walks. She is not possessive of her food or her toys.. She is fine with touching on the front of her body (her ears and front paws), but is afraid of having her back end or back legs handled. (She won’t try to bite, though). Her foster mom is working on this issue.

Bella is great with other dogs and with cats as well. She gets very attached to other dogs, craves their company, and loves to play. She is a follower and will do whatever her playmate wants to do. She will make a good companion for another dog. Bella would prefer a home without small children. She is around her foster mom’s 17-month-old boys and is not aggressive toward them, but they make her uncomfortable. She would be wonderful for an older couple because she walks so well on a leash and is not hyperactive in the house. She loves to play with rope and squeaky toys. She’s just now learning what dog bones and treats are. >br>
UPDATE: We have found out that Bella has hip dysplasia (no wonder she doesn't like having her rear touched!). We are currently exploring options for surgery or alternative treatments, Any contributions toward her care would be greatly appreciated! However, her foster mom also reports that she is doing well and is getting stronger. She calls Bella "Ms Tuff Stuff"!
