Gertie - Adopted

Gertie is 5 years old, black and tan, with a docked tail and natural ears. Her owner is giving her up with great reluctance, due to conflict with another dog. Gertie’s owner got her about a year ago from a shelter to be company for her blind male Dobie, who did not bond with her and who has since become the companion of the owner’s mother. She has two other Dobes: a male and an 8-year-old female who has some stiffness in her back end. The problem is that Gertie and the older girl do not get along (which is not unusual). The old girl considers Gertie to be an interloper, and Gertie considers the other female to be a crotchety old lady. They are jealous of one another. They are kept separated, but no one is happy in the current situation. Their owner believes that everyone, especially Gertie, would be happier if Gertie had a new home where she feels welcome.

Gertie is a great dog who adores her people and wants to please. She needs a bit of training, but should prove to be a good student. She would be OK with a male dog, but she would also be perfectly content as an only dog. She is a little too bouncy to be with small children, but older kids would be fine. She has such loyalty and affection to give. Won’t you welcome Gertie to your home?

Gertie will stay in her current home until she is placed, so let us know if you’d like to meet her and we will make arrangements.

Visitors are always welcome, by appointment only.

NOTE: An adoption application MUST be submitted in order to be considered to adopt a dog through our program.
