George, the Doberman with a Heart of Gold
George's story starts off sad, but that's all behind
him now. He has a new home, a new mom and dad, two new brothers and all
the love he can handle. George has brought so much happiness and joy to
our lives; he may have heart disease, but his heart is filled with love and made
of pure gold. We wouldn't trade George for the world. Click on a

George with Little Brother Samspon
This is George. He needs your help. He was found running as a stray near a rural state park, where he was probably dumped. Fortunately, he wandered onto a nearby horse farm. The farm owner identified him as a Doberman and sent him to Payton's Place. George is confused and sad; he has no idea why his people would abandon him. After all, he is a good boy and is it his fault he's old? Would THEY want to be dumped to find for themselves just because they got old and sick? No, George does not understand and neither do we.
George is red with a docked tail and natural ears. He is probably 10 years old or so and has advanced heart disease. He is being treated with Lasix and as much TLC as we can give him. Unfortunately, he also has cancer. We are looking for a big-hearted person to provide hospice care for him. George would love to have a quiet home with someone who will love him for the time he has remaining. He is sweet and affectionate; he does not require (and indeed can not have) much exercise.
We took George to our vet and he's now taking medication for his heart disease. George plays all day long. He's as active as our other two dogs; you'd never know that he has any heart problems. We also had him retested for cancer. So far, the results have come back negative. This is George in the back-yard playing with dad; George also enjoys going for brisk walks, visiting friends and playing with their dogs and going bye-bye.
George is very protective of his new family. He walks the perimeter of his new yard regularly. Geoge adores his little brother Sampson. Although Sammy is the 2 year old, George wears him out always wanting to play. Georgie likes to play with all the toys and stuffed-animals, but his favorite is the lion we brought to the shelter the day we met him. I think it reminds him of the day he found a home. George sleeps easy now; he knows he never has to worry about being left out in the cold again. He has a family who loves him. He smiles all the time these days. It's good to be home!
