Thinking About Giving Up Your Dog?

Before giving up your dog, please read the information on the following website:

Because you are reading this section, we know that you want to be a responsible dog owner, and we hope some of the information listed here will help you keep your dog. If, after reading the suggestions given here, you feel you still cannot keep your dog, you are welcome to contact us.
Dogs with no homes, in emergency situations, or ones that are in "kill" shelters are given priority over owner turn-ins. We often do not have enough space for all the dogs and feel terrible when we have to turn away some dogs.
When we have space available, we do take dogs from owners who must give up their pets. Until that time, we will provide the necessary training advice or emotional support while we promote your dog through our advertising. If possible, we prefer that you be able to keep your dog until adopted, as the dog will be more comfortable with its owner.

When contacting us regarding giving up your dog, please have all of the following information ready:

  • Dog's name, age, sex, color
  • Is the dog a Doberman mix or purebred?
  • Is the dog spayed or neutered?
  • Are the ears cropped or natural?
  • Is the tail docked or natural?
  • Is the dog up to date on all vaccinations? Rabies?
  • Is the dog on heartworm preventative?
  • The dog's veterinarian name & phone number
  • The history of the dog, such as any and all medical treatments, training, environment, likes/dislikes, where you got the dog, etc.

If you (or your vet) can provide a record that your dog is up to date on all vaccinations & rabies, is spayed/neutered, has had a heartworm test and is heartworm negative, we will then be able to take in your dog as space becomes available.
If the aforementioned is not current or has not been done, you must either have all of the vet work done and provide us with a record, or, we must ask for a donation in order to accept your dog into the rescue. While we empathize with the owner that must give up their dog because they can no longer afford them, we still must ask for a donation to accept your dog into our rescue. We are a nonprofit organization, so donations are the only funds that keep us going. We use this donation to cover the initial costs of neuter/spay, vet exam, heartworm testing, vaccinations, rabies, heartworm prevention, grooming, food, advertising, as well as other expenses in order to place the dog. Our average vet bill runs about $225.00, so we need your financial support to remain a viable resource for our community. If you would like us to take over the responsibility of your dog, please do the right thing by having this work done or helping with these expenses.
